Automakers under $2 Billion Class Action Lawsuit from Canadian Car Buyers

Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007

Since the Canadian Dollar has surpassed USA dollar many canadian car buyers are looking south to purchasing their vehicles.

Juroviesky and Ricci LLP filed a class action lawsuit against the major automobile manufacturers (Honda, Nissan, Chrysler and GM). The suit applies to anyone who purchased or was trying to purchase a car between August 2005 and August 2007.

So, is it really worth buying automobiles south of the border. We did our own research online and compared a couple of manufacturers. Here are a couple of examples:

2008 Civic Sedan in USA
Starting at $15,010*

2008 Civic Sedan in Canada
Starting at $16,990*

Difference: $1980

-------------------

2008 Ford Focus Coupe in USA
Starting at $14,075*

2008 Ford Focus Coupe in Canada
Starting at $18,649*

Difference: $4574

*The above numbers were taken on Oct. 25, 2007 from the following sites: Honda Canada Honda USA Ford Canada Ford USA . Pricing may not be accurate and we advise you to check pricing before using the above figures.

Although there are other costs involved when it comes to importing a vehicle from USA Canadian car manufacturers should realize that Canadian dollar is above the US dollar and it looks that it's to stay this way for a while.

If you wish to join the lawsuit or need more information on the Juroviesky and Ricci LLP (firm handling the suit) and the actual case click here.

Comment: I saw this on the city tv cp24 news tonight. Guy was trying to buy a car at the dealer and they refused, however buying a used car was ok. This also affects northern states which border with Canada. Solution! Drive a bit more south. I hope manufacturers get burned by this, teach them a lesson.

Comment: Funny how this was happening before where US was coming to canada to buy our cars when exchange was at .60 cents to their favour. Lawsuits will always happen and manufacturers will always do everything to protect their interests, public will always do everything to protect their pockets. I myself would buy a car from the states, obviously the savings are there.

Comment: Actually not only cars. From consumer electronics, video games to toys. We pay almost 10~25% more in every item. I for sure am going south for Christmas shopping. Don't buy in Canada. Send them the message through our wallet.

Comment: I inquired about purchasing an Acura in Washington state and was told they weren't allowed to new one but if I was interested in pre-owned they would be more than delighted to. It would be nice to boycott the buying of some brands in Canada to teach them a lesson. Where is the Canadian government in all this free trade stuff? It musts not be election time yet.
