Are winter tires required by law in Ontario

Although it is recommended to install winter tires once the snowy weather sets in it is only a recommendation and not a requirement in Ontario.

Only in the province of Quebec it is required that you have all four winter tires on your vehicle (law 42 since 2007). You need to have winter tires from December 15 to March 15.

Can I use studs in my winter tires?

In Newfoundland and Labrador you are not allowed to use studded tires before November 1, but are allowed to use studs until the end of May

In Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northern territories there are no restrictions when it comes to studded tires.

In Prince Edward Island (PEI) you are allowed to use studded tires from October 1 to May 31.

Province of Ontario and Manitoba allows you to use studded tires from October 1 to April 30.
In Nova Scotia and New Brunswick October 15 to April 30.

In British Colombia only certain mountainous areas require tires with chains or winter tires. Studded tires. You are allowed to use studded tires from October 1 to April 30.
